I will be able to get into my apartment on Wednesday (Tuesday night for you).  I have taken a few pictures of the area around my apartment.  This area that is popular with expats.  The Singapore River was once the hub of the shipping for Singapore.  As ships have gotten larger, the shipping shifted to another location.  The river has now become a tourist center and is surrounded by high-rise apartment complexes. 

As is true with many waterways today, the sides of the river are concrete.  Perhaps it is intended to manage the water level when it rises.  Along the edge of the river, there is a promenade or walkway along the river that is bordered by restaurants and shops that expats would use because they recognize their offering.  This is the area where I will be living.

I want this time in Singapore to be fun.  I will work hard and well at my job, but I plan to reserve my weekends and vacations as a chance to see and experience this amazing region of the world.  I want to see it all.  I am restricted in my travel for the first 6 months.  After that I will be able to explore.
